About

Tegan Modra is a fiction writer who loves creating worlds out of words for children and adults alike.

As an emerging writer, she draws on her experience as a Speech and Language Pathologist, mother of three adventurous children, part-time farmer, and an avid reader of all things to construct stories that children and adults can enjoy together.

Her focus is on the shared reading experience. There is a magic that happens when words and illustrations are combined in the picture book format, but more than that, there is magic when parents and children share a picture book together.

Deepening understanding of language, increased vocabulary, positive reinforcement of the parent-child relationship and a greater understanding of the world around us are just a few of the spells Tegan feels are cast when sharing the picture book experience. You can find more about what she’s writing here.

Tegan is a member of the Australian Society of Authors (ASA), the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), and Writers SA, and has completed a number of courses and workshops through these organisations along with the Australian Writers Centre.

A country girl at heart, Tegan lives and works on the family farm near the bustling rural town of Cummins on the Eyre Peninsula, South Australia. If she’s not writing, farming, or volunteering in the community, she’s got her hands full managing a very busy husband and three wild but (mostly) loveable kids.

In her tiny pockets of free-time, Tegan enjoys exploring the spectacular coastline around her home, getting her hands dirty in the garden or having a game of back-yard cricket with the kids. And of course, wherever she goes, there is always a book within arms-reach!
